Over his Army career he served five tours in the Pentagon, two on the Army General Staff, two on the Special Staff and one on the Joint Staff. He had command assignments in Germany and the United States. Pochyla served as an instructor at the Army War College. In his final assignment, he was the commander of the U.S. Army Electronic Proving Ground at Fort Huachuca and the installation commander. He retired in 1966 in Tucson and devoted time to sculpture and civic and cultural organizations in southern Arizona.
