Description
This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This wire features a Hiram B. Scutt patent, dated June 18, 1878. This wire is called "Scutt's Narrow Scored Side Arrow Plate Sheet Metal Barb or Two Lines", by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 693-BVARIATION
). (This Hagemeier No is for a standard Arrow Plate Barb .... I could find no listing for the narrow or scored arrow plate). This wire features two round twisted together round line wires. Barbs are four pointed made from an arrowhead shaped steel plate. Plate is split at pointed end, inserted between the two line wires, and points bent to hold barb in place. Plates are horizontally scored on one side only. . Plates are 3/8" wide and about 1-1/2" in length. Wire sample is at least 18" in length. Wire shows age and use wear with light pitting. There are three barbs, fairlyt well spaced, and cut is well centered. There is some bending of points, but no broken or missing points. Wire is in good used condition.
