Description
This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This wire features a Luther Merrill and John C. Merrill patent, dated September 29, 1874. This wire is called Merrill's Early Four Barb on Single Round Line" by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 149-B). This patent was essentially vacated, and Merrills replaced it with their December 26, 1876 patent). This wire features a single heavy gauge round line wire.Barbs are four pointed, made from two round barbing wires. Round barbing wires are laid together and wrapped around the round line. Wire sample is at least 18" in length. It shows age and use wear with light to moderate pitting. There are three barbs, well spaced, and cut is well centered. There is some bending of points, but no broken, or missing barbs. Wire is in good used condition.This sample of antique barbed wire is absolutely old and authentic and sells with no reserve.
