Massive Antique Western Braided Leather Cowboy Belt -- Dated 1886 -- Impressive!

Killer belt. Absolutely HUGE in width. Leather belt with extensive, finely detailed woven braidwork, resembling tiny beads. Dated 1886. Also has original owner's name in braidwork. At first glance, I thought this was very fine beadwork, but under a magnifying glass, it is clearly woven -- doesn't appear to be horsehair though.
Buckle appears to be silver plated, but is unmarked. Leather is supple and buckle works perfectly. Some loss to weaves, especially at edges and on the tongue of the belt where the holes are awled in. The leather is cracked some on one of these holes as shown in the photo, but remains strong.
Total length of the belt is 38 inches and it is a massive 5 1/2 inches wide at it's widest. The buckle with a floral design measures 3 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. This would have been a belt worn with pride and must have cost the cowboy a pretty penny. Wonderful condition and the epitome of handcrafted leather work from the 1880s.
