Description
This is a used sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This sample features a Harold A. Abbott patent, dated January 19, 1943. This wire is called "Abbott's Four Point Double Kink & Double Loop - All Aluminum", by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 118-B) This wire features a single round line wire. Line wire has two off-setting kinks at barbing location. Barbs are four pointed made from two round barbing wires. Barbing wires are placed in seperate kinks, bent into staple shapes; and bent over each other, and ends wrapped around line wire. This sample has solid aluminum line and barbs. This wire was first produced in Australia as a war wire and then later adapted for commercial use. I have no idea what the thinking was on an all aluminum wire. This sample is 18-1/4" in length and has four barbs,. Barbs are well spaced, and cut is well centered. Wire shows age wear, with light pitting,. There are no broken or repaired barbs.
